Property inspections may seem like a hassle, but skipping them can be a costly mistake.
Your rental property is a long-term investment, so keeping it in good condition is critical. Therefore, making sure inspections are a regular part of your duties as a Landlord is a important aspect thatβs often underestimated.
Not only do inspections help you keep on top of routine maintenance and repairs, it also helps build a healthy relationship with the tenant, keeping lines of communication open. You will also be able to see if the tenants are breaching the tenancy terms in any way and address any issues before they become substantial and to help avoid legal action. If issues do arise, say due to cleanliness, they can be dealt with and kept on top of before it builds up and becomes a bigger problem.
Inspections are also a good opportunity for you to get an impression of how the property is being taken care of and can be beneficial when considering whether to extend the tenancy.
It is recommended that you keep a record of any inspections carried out, as you may need these if any deductions need to be made from the deposit at the end of the tenancy.
